QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science, History, Museum studies, or a related field
  • A minimum of one year experience in a museum, special or research library, or archives
  • Texas Driver's License

A BRIEF OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, performs professional-level librarian duties, utilizing current technology and traditional resources to meet the informational, instructional, and educational needs of museum patrons and the recreational needs of the community; manages assigned library programs and recommends plans, programs, and policies of the Armstrong Texas Ranger Research Center (ARC).


Primary Duties

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provides technical and professional assistance to library patrons and teaches the use of library equipment for performing research; assists and instructs people in the most efficient and effective ways to identify, locate, access and use public information and resources; processes patron’s requests for additional resources and discusses with other ARC staff; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Maintains assigned print and photographic collections; assists with collection development; reviews books and recommends additions to the collection.
  • Catalogues book and pamphlet collections.
  • Checks to assure patrons comply with policies and procedures; assures that appropriate services are provided; assists with training of volunteers.
  • Develops special promotions for patrons, including outreach programs and training classes.
  • Responds to general inquiries from the public; provides information and performs in-depth research; interprets and explains ARC policies, procedures, rules and regulations to patrons.
  • Gathers and compiles data for reports and prepares statistical and analytical reports of Library activities and operations.
  • Promotes ARC and Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Museum program to resident groups.
