JOB SUMMARY

The Public Service Staff Supervisor is responsible for supervising public service staff and volunteers working in public areas of the museum. This position reports to the Director of Museum Operations. The Public Service Staff Supervisor plays an important role by providing guidance and support to the public service staff, ensuring a positive visitor experience to the museum. This position is also responsible for maintaining reservations and facilitating school and group visits.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

The San Jacinto Museum is housed at the base of the San Jacinto Monument. The Museum is operated by the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield Association — a non-profit organization — in collaboration with the Texas Historical Commission.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assign workday schedules and daily assignments for public service staff employees

· Ensure that procedures for handling daily receipts etc. are complied with by all employees

· Oversee time sheet recordation, checking time sheets at the end of monthly pay periods, and turning time sheets over to the Business Office Manager in a timely fashion

· Ensure that all public service staff employees can answer questions that visitors may pose regarding the Battle, Park, Monument, etc.

· Fill in at any position when public service staff is short-handed

· Maintain school/tour group reservation system

· Welcome and instruct visiting groups as they arrive

· Work together with education/interpretive staff for group visits

REQUIREMENTS

· Graduation from high school/GED. College/university credits preferred

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a customer service-related field

Ability to supervise others (staff and volunteers)

· Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Database management experience preferred

· Excellent verbal and written communications skills

· Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing

· Ability to organize and prioritize work

· Ability to work independently with little supervision

· Ability to manage several projects at once, meet deadlines, and work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.

· Excellent interpersonal skills

· A self-starter, data and deadline driven, and ability to multi-task with solid organizational and time-management skills

· Comfortable working with the public, Board Members, and Museum members on the phone and/or in person.

· Knowledge or appreciation of Texas history is a plus

· Ability to work well as a team and maintain a positive attitude

SALARY & BENEFITS OFFERED

The salary range for this position is between $31,000-$33,000 dependent on experience. The SJMBA offers a competitive benefits package that includes, Health Insurance, Retirement Savings Plan, and Workers’ Compensation Coverage.
