General Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is an executive position within the Cultural Foundation of the Texas Panhandle. The Director of Marketing and Communications guides the strategic marketing efforts of the CFTP by planning, implementing, evaluating, and refining the marketing activities for Panhandle Plains Historical Museum and the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, who produces the TEXAS Outdoor Musical. This position promotes advancement of both entities by enhancing name recognition and public perception through strategic marketing channels and community partners. The Director of Marketing and Communications will work in close partnership with various members of the WTAMU, CFTP, PPHM, and TEXAS boards.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Manage advertising, publicity and all promotional activities for the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and TEXAS Outdoor Musical. This includes developing, coordinating and implementing marketing efforts for all exhibitions, tourism, musical initiatives and both organization’s special events while managing the brand and implementing a clear brand standard at both entities.  Ensures compliance with the Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) and member requirements as they relate to marketing and promotion of the member.

·         Management of the Marketing Teams for PPHM and TEXAS outdoor musical to include but not limited to organization's website, social media, and digital presences including third party review sites. Photography and video library of both entities.

·         Maintain close communication with local, regional and national media. Coordinate large media efforts with WTAMU Marketing Department.

·         Creation and Coordination of all publications at PPHM and TEXAS (with the exception of the PPHS Review) which includes selling advertising, creating and coordinating all efforts for the TEXAS Outdoor Musical Show Program.

·         Prepares the departmental budget and monitors income and expenses during the year. Consistent evaluation of all tactics and strategies to determine effectiveness of marketing and outreach efforts including reporting monthly to director and boards.

·         Coordinate and assist with membership and fundraising efforts with the Development Team.

·         Manage and sell adult group tours for PPHM.

·         Participate in various tourism activities, community events and trade shows to further awareness of PPHM and TEXAS while consistently seeking recognition for organization efforts through national, local and regional award processes.

·         Other duties as assigned.

        

Necessary Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or other applicable field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         Ten years of related experience.  Three years of supervisory experience

·         Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

·         Knowledge of marketing research, tactics, trends and branding, as well as journalism practices, video & web applications and social media practices.

·         Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

·         Ability to manage a team to achieve organization goals.

         

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or other applicable field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·         Ability to shoot and edit video and photographs
