City of Cleburne Seeking a Summer Museum Intern 

 
Are you passionate about history and eager to gain hands-on experience in museum operations? The Cleburne Railroad Museum and Layland Museum of History are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic intern to join the team! 

The City of Cleburne manages both museums, and each of the buildings offer different activities and programs throughout the year.  

 
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: As a paid intern, you will have the opportunity to assist with various aspects of museum operations, such as curatorial work, collections management, exhibit design, educational programming, and visitor engagement. You will work closely with experienced museum professionals to learn the ins and outs of preserving and presenting historical artifacts and information. 

This position is for a university-level student interested in museology, history, or art as a possible career. The position requires organization, efficiency, and interpersonal skills. 

The pay rate for the internship is $12.87 per hour. No minimum number of hours are guaranteed.   

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrated interest in history, museums, object preservation, collections management, research activities, and donor relations 

  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, office practices and procedures 

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed 

  • Knowledge of the Museum mission, policies, and procedures 

  • Ability to maintain established records and files 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and volunteers 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Enrollment in a secondary-level institution or graduate program for the upcoming semester, or recent graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in history, museum studies, or similar field. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

 
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:  A Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
