Description:

Join MELT and Maisie Duncan to learn more about her unique experience building a new museum “from the ground up”.

She will discuss in detail her successes and challenges in building a new mission, creating new exhibits, growing a museum collection, and writing narratives for an expansive collection at the National Mounted Warrior Museum at Fort Hood.

Bio:

Maisie Duncan has spent over 15 years working with cultural heritage, beginning as a Civil Affairs Specialist in the United States Army; work that continues to inform her perspectives as a documenter and storyteller. She then transitioned to educator, writing instructor, and freelance journalism. Her work in museums is a continuation of her examination of the role storytelling plays in our understanding of our collective heritage.

She currently works as a Museum Specialist with the Fort Hood Museums. Maisie was the team lead in planning and writing the exhibit's script for the new National Mounted Warrior Museum currently under construction on Fort Hood. She holds a B.A. in Writing & Creative Studies and an MLIS in Museum Studies.
