Transforming Security to Improve Collection Care and the Visitor Experience

Beginning in 2023, Art Sentry and the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) undertook a multi-phase project to deploy Art Sentry’s patented object protection technology throughout the museum. With initial phases completed and the roadmap for future phases already in place, Art Sentry Sales Manager, Carrie Heflin, and DMA Chief Security and Operations Officer, Ken Bennett, will share their insights on what goes into planning and executing a project on this scale. The presenters will outline what criteria Ken used to select the right vendor partner (including project cost), how the museum secured funding, and where they are currently in meeting the project’s goals to foster better interdepartmental collaboration, improve the visitor experience, balance security needs with available resources, and enhance collection protection. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to better understand what upfront and ongoing planning/resources they should consider when undertaking large-scale capital improvement projects, as well as how selecting the right security tools can have a transformative impact on your institution.
