TAM Statement re Coronavirus (COVID-19)
3.4.2020 (Updated 3.12.20)

The Texas Association of Museums has received some inquiries about the status of the 2020 TAM Annual Meeting, amid rising concerns of coronavirus. TAM wants to reassure its members and Annual Meeting attendees that at this time, the 2020 TAM Annual Meeting will continue as scheduled April 13 – 16 at the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center in College Station. There are currently no plans to cancel or reschedule the Annual Meeting. Registrations are pacing well ahead of recent previous conferences, exhibit and sponsorship commitments have been up in recent weeks and all is on track to ensure a successful event.

TAM’s top priority is the health and safety of all participants, including attendees, exhibitors, vendors, staff, industry partners, speakers and others involved in the show. Therefore, conference organizers are committed to monitoring the coronavirus situation closely — and following the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — to ensure the safety of attendees.

Currently there are NO travel warnings for travel within the United States. The health risk of coronavirus for the general American public is considered low at this time, according to the latest summary from the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/summary.html). Additionally, the risk assessment for most of the world remains very low according to the WHO. Recoveries are outpacing new cases and have been since February 19.

We encourage all attendees to continue the daily practice of everyday preventive actions, including observing good hand washing techniques, using hand sanitizers, limiting handshakes and following guidelines set by the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html) when on-site at the conference.

TAM will continue to keep a watchful eye on the situation and provide updates as necessary. If you have any questions or need any assistance from our team, please contact the TAM office at 817-332-1177 or admin@texasmuseums.org. Although we advise against canceling your plans at this point in time, please keep in mind that the window for requesting refunds closed on March 6, 2020. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in College Station in April for the 2020 TAM Annual Meeting!
