Gary N. Smith Biography

Gary N. Smith is President and Program Officer for Texas History at the Summerlee Foundation of Dallas since 2015. From 1996-2014 he was President and Director of Dallas Heritage Village in Dallas, Texas.

He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, earning a B.A. degree in Political Science at the University of Iowa and an M.A. in Museum Administration and American History from the University of Delaware.

His other professional experience includes positions with the Iowa Division of Historic Preservation, the Historical Society of Delaware, the Missouri Historical Society in St. Louis, and the McFaddin-Ward House Museum in Beaumont, Texas.

Smith has served the American Association of Museums as an Accreditation Site Reviewer and a reviewer for the Museum Assessment Program. He is a past president of the Texas Association of Museums.

He is a former adjunct professor in the museum studies program at Baylor University, where he taught courses on museum administration and historic house museums. Married to Annette, Smith has two daughters, three grandchildren, and lives in Ennis, Texas.
