Organization Overview

History’s alive at the Official Cotton Gin Museum of Texas, home of the oldest operating cotton gin in America. The Burton Farmers Gin is powered by a 1925 Bessemer engine- the largest of its vintage still operating in the USA! Recognized by the ASME, Smithsonian Institution, National Trust for Historic Preservation and National Register of Historic Places, museum guests are transported to an era that defined the American Spirit. Thousands of visitors from around the world tour the historic cotton gin where it has stood since 1914. Exhibits highlighting tools, equipment and photographs make the history of cotton come to life for all ages. Starting in 1990, the Burton Cotton Gin Festival has been held on the grounds of the museum every year. This event brings people from all over to see a live demonstration of the Burton Farmers Gin, and experience a great small town festival. The 33rd Annual Burton Cotton Gin Festival will take place on April 23, 2022.

The Texas Cotton Gin Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am to 4pm, and tours of the Burton Farmers Gin are offered at 10am and 2pm. The museum is happy to schedule group tours, and has two rental facilities on the property, including the soon to be 9,000 square foot Whitener-Winkler Pavilion. Come see this great piece of Texas History!
