Museum and Collector Resource, LLC (MCR), is seeking an Archivist/Collections Manager for a two-year, renewable contract position.

Position Summary:
MCR is seeking an Archivist/Collections Manager to perform a wide variety of professional archival and collections management duties in support of a prominent family collection in the Dallas area, and to support other MCR activities and clients. The incumbent will primarily manage the arrangement and description of archival collections as well as data entry for archives and artifacts. This individual will perform complex assignments requiring independent judgment and action but will also work as part of team. Team members include MCR employees, family office employees and contractors. Additionally, this individual will engage with, (and at times, provide direction and supervision to) staff, vendors, colleagues, and contractors in a highly professional corporate environment. The ideal candidate will possess a love of history and aptitude for database work with a high degree of attention to detail. The Archivist/Collections Manager will serve as MCR’s representative on site for presentations and interactions with the client. This is a full-time, temporary position for 2 years.

MCR works throughout the United States, for a variety of organizations. The majority of work will take place in Dallas, TX, but the successful candidate should have the ability to travel within the US and work remotely for short periods of time. 90% of work is on site at a museum in the Uptown Dallas area.

Salary: $22/hour

  •   Oversees and coordinates collections management functions for exhibited and stored collections on site at the project location in Uptown Dallas, Texas.

  •   Arranges and describes archival collections.

  •   Creates finding aids.

  •   Catalogues and documents objects and archives, updates and creates records in the Collector

    Systems database.

  •   Acts as the primary resource on archival issues: answers internal queries regarding the collections

    and the project on site.

  •   Makes curatorial recommendations concerning objects/materials to be included or removed as part

    of the collections.

  •   Handles and re-houses artifacts and archives.

  •   Generates manual files for tracking acquisition and provenance for artifacts and archives.

  •   Conducts data entry in a variety of collections management databases.

  •   Generates and conveys documents including condition reports, project documentation and finding


  •   Digitizes archival documents and photographs 3-dimensional artifacts.

  •   Coordinates work with the museum’s Curator as well as other MCR staff.

  •   Moves artifacts, artwork, and archival boxes in support of the project.

  •   Ensures that collection storage and work areas are clean and neat.

  •   Provides specifications for supply orders as needed.

  •   Tracks supply and equipment budgets.

  •   Conducts research.

  •   Makes order out of chaos in sometimes dusty and cluttered conditions.

  •   Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

  •   Excellent computer skills including experience with relational database management programs.

  •   Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.

  •   Strong ability to work well independently.

  •   Demonstrated ability to prioritize complex tasks.

  •   Works well under pressure and with conflicting demands; ability to work on several projects simultaneously and coordinate multiple deadlines.

  •   Ability to travel locally in the Greater Dallas area as well as air travel within the US.

  •   Knowledge of art handling techniques and preventive conservation methods.

  •   Knowledge of Society of American Archivists best practices and industry standards.

  •   Knowledge of late 20th century American political history a plus.

Education and Experience:

  •   Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.

  •   Graduate level studies in the museum, archives, library, art or history field required.

  •   Previous archival experience required.

  •   Minimum of 1 year of staff supervision experience required.

  •   Master’s degree in Museum Studies, library, archives, or information science preferred.

  •   2+ years of museum or archives experience preferred.

  •   Experience using Collector Systems database is highly preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

  •   Most work is completed in a normal office environment, however physical mobility and manual dexterity/agility is required to work with art and artifacts throughout galleries, a corporate office building, and in storage areas.

  •   Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; lifting and handling of art and artifacts often in constrained areas.

  •   Ability to lift 20 pounds over head.
