Educational and Experience Requirement |
Bachelor’s degree with course work in museum studies, history, architecture, art, design, theater or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Three years of experience in museum exhibit design and preparation, or experience in a related field. Experience with research, drawings, mock-up or models, props, supports, stands, cases and background fabrication preferred. Experience with graphic and photo support used in exhibits including electrical lighting and equipment installation is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. |
Nature & Purpose of Position |
Implements curatorial and educational staff ideas into exhibits through renderings, drawings, models, dioramas, multi-media installations, arrangements of objects and artifacts, lighting, and text signage as required. Works in close cooperation with other professional staff as well as varied segments of the public to accomplish Museum planning and development. |
Primary Responsibilities |
Research, designs, fabricates, and installs long-term and temporary exhibits. Schedules traveling and loan exhibitions. Manages budget. Responsible for the regular upkeep and maintenance of the long-term exhibits. May assist Museum Education Department as needed with guided tours. Performs other related duties as assigned. |
Other Specifications |
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Experience with computers, especially computer graphics editing, and printing is a plus. Position requires the ability to exercise considerable independent judgment. Must have hands on experience in the safe operation of all required tools and equipment, and knowledge of safe shop practices and procedures. Must have experience in matting, framing, and mounting of two-dimensional materials. Knowledge of photography, video, and related resources also desirable. Must be comfortable with public speaking and a team player. |
