The State Parks Division is looking to engage a variety of students to fill intern opportunities throughout the state that embraces and encourages diversity and provides a multi-faceted learning and working environment.
Under the direction of the Assistant Curator, this position will serve as an intern for the State Park Division. The Intern will complete collection management projects in a 10-or more week internship. Projects may include: (1) inventorying or cataloging interpretive collections, including data management; (2) preparing battleship collection for move and transfer; (3) environmental monitoring of collection spaces; (4) maintaining and digitizing site records. Intern will assist in ongoing work in interpretive collections including cataloging, photographing, researching, and inventorying interpretive objects. Intern will receive on-the-job training in collection management and object handling and will learn to utilize database software, camera, and scanner. Intern will gain knowledge in program operations, program administration, and Texas Parks and Wildlife philosophy concerning historical, natural, and cultural resources. Successful conclusion of projects will help ensure the physical preservation and integrity of the interpretive collections. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Curatorial Intern will assist the Battleship Texas curatorial team in ongoing work in interpretive collections including cataloging, photographing, inventorying, and packing artifacts at the Battleship Texas office located at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte, TX

Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months;
Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application;
Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.
If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State Driver’s license.

Internship duration is approximately 400 hours, not to exceed August 31, 2022;
Work week schedule to be mutually determined by supervisor and intern;
May be required to work holidays and weekends, depending on intern assignment;
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
