Job Summary

The Development Officer is responsible for developing and executing fundraising initiatives and programs to help achieve our organization’s mission and goals. This position involves researching, prospecting, cultivating and managing relationships with donors, and coordinating fundraising activities. The Development Officer ensures that the organization’s development efforts are successful and that donor support is maximized.

The Development Officer also works as an Assistant Site Manager for the John Jay French Museum.

Development Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, grow support through successful solicitation of corporate, foundation, and individual underwriting/ sponsorships.
  • Research prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Lead the research, development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
  • Represent the Society as a Development Officer in the community by participating in community events where appropriate.
  • Conduct visits with corporate and individual sponsors and prospects.
  • Spearhead development with clear objectives, timelines, and metrics.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor communication and ensure proper database management with the Executive Assistant.
  • Produce high-quality and personalized proposals, reports, solicitations, and other correspondence as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and update a fundraising plan with measurable revenue goals that meet or exceed budget requirements.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain development materials, such as brochures and presentations of development on the website.
  • Participate in donor meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Develop and implement recognition and stewardship strategies.
  • Prepare fundraising reports, budgets, and other documents.
  • Stay informed of fundraising trends, techniques, and technology.
  • Assess the viability of current sponsorship programs/ memberships.
  • Engage staff and volunteers in the solicitation process, including cultivation and stewardship activities, and coordination of any support group activity that involves sponsorship.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough and accurate understanding of the organization’s curatorial, educational, and community engagement programs, and overall funding priorities to effectively connect donors and prospects to the work of the Society.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor for the good of the organization.

Assistant Site Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees care and maintenance of the John Jay French Museum under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Oversee staff and volunteer docents.
  • Oversee grounds and buildings and report on maintenance needs.
  • Seek grants and support for Museum needs.
  • Give tours as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in fundraising, marketing, communications, or related field and 3 – 5 years experience in fundraising and development OR
  • 10 + Years experience in fundraising and development with demonstrated success
  • Demonstrated success in managing and meeting fundraising goals
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to train, educate, and motivate staff and volunteers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

75% John Jay French Museum – 3025 French Rd. Beaumont, TX 77706

Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with evenings and weekends as needed for events

Full-time, Exempt

Salary: $43,000- $45,000
