Title: Director of Adult Programs

Reports to: Museum Director

Employment Status: Full-time position, 40 hours a week, year-round.

Regular Hours: Primarily Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Flexibility of schedule is required to accommodate events and after-hours work including weekend and evening hours.

Compensation: Salary range starts at $65,000.00 - commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package

The Director of Adult Programs is an enthusiastic and creative thinker who develops, implements, manages, and evaluates programs and events designed for adult audiences in support of the Museum's mission. The Director of Adult Programs creates engaging educational and cultural experiences that encourage visitors to experience, understand, and enjoy the Museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions. This position oversees the planning, promotion, and evaluation of adult programs and special events; manages the Museum's social media presence and digital content; coordinates docent continuing education initiatives; and collaborates with staff to develop exhibition-related programming and educational resources. The Director of Adult Programs works closely with the Museum Director, Director of School and Family Programs, and other staff members to ensure a cohesive and engaging visitor experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conceptualize, develop, schedule, and deliver dynamic adult programs that engage audiences in experiencing, understanding, and enjoying the Museum's collection and special exhibitions while promoting the Museum's mission.
  • Update and maintain information related to adult programs and events on the Museum website.
  • Collaborate with the Director of School and Family Programs to develop, coordinate, and deliver new and continuing docent training sessions focused on best practices in gallery teaching, visitor engagement, and studio activities.
  • Organize and coordinate docent enrichment opportunities, including field trips and educational experiences that support ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Plan and coordinate the annual docent appreciation luncheon and related recognition activities.
  • Market adult programs and Museum events through email communications, social media platforms, the Museum website, and other promotional channels.
  • Develop, create, and maintain content calendars for the Museum's social media platforms to promote programs, exhibitions, collections, and institutional initiatives.
  • Research, write, edit, and schedule content for the Museum blog and other digital communications.
  • Manage budgets related to adult programming, social media, and digital outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate registration, logistics, and program implementation for adult education offerings and special events.
  • Evaluate programs and events to determine effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement and audience growth.
  • Coordinate and oversee onsite special events, receptions, lectures, and exhibition-related programming.
  • Assist the Museum Director with research, interpretation, and content development for special exhibitions and accompanying educational materials.
  • Stay current with trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in museum education, audience engagement, communications, and social media through professional affiliations and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide institution-wide support as necessary, work effectively with staff at all levels, and carry out other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • MA degree in art, art history, art education or museum studies preferred. Background in American Art preferred. Undergraduate degree with museum experience will be considered.
  • Experience developing, managing, promoting and writing for adult and general audiences in museums and other educational settings.
  • Experience working in a museum or cultural arts institutions.
  • Experience developing or managing digital content preferred.
  • Strong organizational, writing, speaking, and computer skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of museum teaching best practices, and a passion for conveying art, art history and cultural history.    
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with diplomacy when interacting with staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands and light lifting is needed.
  • Flexibility in schedule is necessary. Must be able to work evenings and weekends for program implementation and oversight as needed.

About the Museum: The Sid Richardson Museum displays permanent and special exhibitions of paintings of the American West, including paintings by the premier Western artists, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. The works are the legacy of the late oilman and philanthropist, Sid W. Richardson, and were acquired by him from 1942 until his death in 1959. Following Sid Richardson's philosophy of helping others, this free Museum is open seven days a week and offers educational resources, tours, and programs for adults and children.
