General Notes 

Texas Science & Natural History Museum has developed new exhibits, programs, and experiences that spark curiosity, promote belonging, and tell stories about Texas science and natural history. The Museum seeks an Education Coordinator to work with the Associate Director to create, manage, and evaluate museum education resources, programs, and services for learners of all ages.  

 

Purpose 

The Education Coordinator will work closely with the Associate Director on direction and priorities for museum educational programs and services. Ensure programs, exhibits, and associated educational resources meet the needs of the museum and communities within and external to the university.  

 

Responsibilities 

Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs. Create resource materials that support exhibitions, meet science literacy goals, and align with state curriculum standards for preK-12 learners. Provide educational services including teacher professional development. Participate in science outreach programs, activities, and events on behalf of the museum. 

 

Schedule and coordinate volunteer-led educational engagement activities at the museum. Supervise training of volunteers and lead guided tours of the museum’s exhibits. Secure supplies for educational programs and assist with the management of the museum’s education collection.

 

Manage evaluations of education programs and resources. This includes the creation and the distribution of program evaluations, consistent communication to program participants, collection, and analysis of program data such as attendance and demographics of participants, and the creation of reports to be shared with museum leadership to promote education programs and secure funding. 

 

Facilitate and manage administrative tasks associated with implementing and leading new programs that must remain in compliance under The University of Texas Youth Protection Program. Duties will include pre-program administration, training, scheduling, budget maintenance, registration, curriculum development, communications, and post-program evaluations. 

 

Coordinate educational community engagement activities for museum events such as Texas Wildlife DayDinosaur Day, and Earth Day Celebration. This includes collaborating with events and visitor services staff to host and communicate about museum’s educational resources with university and community partners. 

 

Other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a natural sciences field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in education program coordination or PreK-12 teaching.
  • Strong knowledge of natural history, with emphasis on Texas.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and solid communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining productive relationships with students, staff, visitors, and educators.
  • Proven initiative, flexibility, and ownership of projects from start to completion.

 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • At least five years of experience coordinating an education program or experience teaching science to students in an academic program setting. 
  • Experience developing and implementing teacher continuing professional education programs.  
  • Experience working in museums, nature centers, or other cultural institutions. 
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills. 

 

Salary Range  

$55,000 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Working at a desk and computer for extended periods, including repetitive use of a keyboard. 
  • Use of manual dexterity. 
  • Occasional climbing of ladders and stairs. 
  • Occasional lifting and moving 20+ lbs. 
  • Occasional work around electrical, mechanical hazards, heavy equipment, and museum exhibits. 
  • Occasional travel may be required. 
  • Evening and/or Sunday work hours may be required at times.  

 

Work Shift 

Tuesday through Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm, some flexibility needed depending on program schedule
