Job Title: Events Coordinator 
Location: Museum of East Texas – Lufkin, TX 
Reports To: Executive Director 

Position Summary: 

The Museum of East Texas is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Events Coordinator to plan and execute a variety of events that engage our members, donors, and the broader East Texas community. This part-time position plays a vital role in promoting the Museum’s mission by organizing public programs, community events, and major fundraising initiatives throughout the year. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, organize, and execute events including member receptions and Gala, exhibition openings, community celebrations, and annual fundraisers such as Festival of Trees and Odd Ball. 

  • Coordinate logistics for each event: venue setup, catering, entertainment, staffing, signage, volunteer coordination, and post-event teardown. 

  • Collaborate with museum staff to ensure events align with institutional goals and run smoothly. 

  • Manage event budgets, track expenses, and negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers. 

  • Oversee invitation lists and RSVPs and work with marketing staff to promote events via social media, email, and print. 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, vendors, and sponsors to support museum programming. 

  • Recruit, train, and manage event volunteers and interns when needed. 

  • Evaluate and report on event success, collecting attendee feedback and offering suggestions for improvement. 


Qualifications
:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in event planning, hospitality, communications, arts administration, or a related field. 

  • 2+ years of experience in event planning, preferably in a museum, nonprofit, or arts organization. 

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with an ability to multitask and meet deadlines. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Creative thinker with a strong attention to detail. 

  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as events require. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management tools (e.g., Canva, Constant Contact, or Eventbrite a plus). 


Work Environment:
 

This is a part-time position that may involve occasional evening and weekend hours depending on the event calendar. The Events Coordinator will work both in an office setting and on-site at Museum and offsite event locations. 


Compensation
:
 

Compensation is hourly commensurate with qualifications and experience ($15 - $22/hr). This is a part-time position.
