Executive Director Job Description Scurry County Museum 

About the Job: 

The Scurry County Museum is seeking an Executive Director who is a dynamic, outgoing, mature individual with excellent communication skills. They must have the ability to manage all operations of the Museum and oversee small corps of dedicated staff, and volunteers responsible for recruiting, hiring, corrective planning, and firing. As the face of the organization, the incumbent is responsible for media relations, public presentations, and speeches. 

 

It is especially important that the Executive Director be able to integrate into the community and not only bring people to the Museum, but also bring the Museum to the peopleFundraising, donor relationships, and grant writing are essential skills for this position. The incumbent will be responsible for QuickBooks management processing accounts payable, reconciliation, and working with an accountant to process payroll and taxes.   

 

The Museum has a large collection of artifacts managed by an Assistant CuratorOrganizational abilities and a knowledge of best museum preservation practices is vital in fulfilling the Museum’s mission of preserving the history of Scurry County for future generations. The Museum has an excellent Permanent Gallery, but also a long tradition of regularly rotating interesting exhibits in its temporary galleries, and an understanding of exhibit design is important. Ability to help in educational programming is a huge plus with our outreach and workshops. 

 

Salary Range is $37,000-40,000 yearly, generous vacation package, and professional development. No other benefits offered. 

 

Requirements: 

 

Bachelor’s degree in museums, history, public history or related fields. Masters preferred. Three years museum experience in a leadership roleMust have a working knowledge of grant writing. Strong communication skills both oral and written, management skills, adaptability, strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, and strong customer service abilities are key. Must be comfortable dealing with different types of personalities as well as working both individually and within team. A positive “can do” attitude is crucial.  Microsoft Office skills essentialQuickBooks experience preferred.
