 POSITION

 SUMMARY:                   The purpose of this position is to develop and implement educational programs for a variety of audiences in accordance with the institutional mission and interpretative goals of the Historical Park.

 

 

 ESSENTIAL  JOB

 FUNCTIONS:               Dynamic team player that provides public educational programming including coordinating and conducting school and general tours; development and assistance with special events; maintaining on-going programs; assist with exhibit development to create innovative and diverse displays that will

engage existing and new audiences; support exhibits by creating supplemental activities and programs; and performing related administrative functions such as filing, researching, all while developing and/or enhancing revenue for the park.

 

Manages assigned stewards and volunteers including recruiting, training, assigning tasks, and record keeping of information and activities. Recruits, trains, motivates and retains stewards and volunteer corps capable of educating individuals and groups about the structures in the Historical Park and the history of Farmers Branch.

 

Maintains professional development such as research and study of local, state, and world history and related topics; researches trends in education and museum studies; attends professional development workshops, seminars, and conference; joins and participates in professional organizations; establishes and maintains professional relationships.

 

 

 EDUCATION

 AND

 EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in museum studies, education, history or related field required with a minimum of two (2) years working in a museum environment with an emphasis on museum education; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

 KNOWLEDGE,

 SKILLS  AND

 ABILITIES:

Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

 

Knowledge of Texas and American History.

 

Knowledge of museum education, interpretation concepts, museum ethics, and best practices.

 

Knowledge of current curriculum initiatives and learning theory. Ability to lead museum tours.

Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with staff, volunteers, visitors, and other stakeholders.

 

Ability to interact with and train stewards and volunteers who interpret and represent the Historical Park and the City.

Ability to research topics and develop accurate programs. Recommendations regarding policy development and implementation are

made and/or recommended. Evaluates customer satisfaction, develops

cooperative associations, and utilizes resources to continuously improve customer satisfaction.

 

Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the

work environment of the organization.

 

This position prepares accounting, budget, employment, and/or purchasing documents; and completes research to justify language used in documents for a unit or division of a department. This position may recommend budget allocations.

 

Advanced ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Intermediate ability to deal with system of real numbers, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and measurements. Advanced ability to write editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques.

 

 Special  Requirements:

Mobility within a field environment; flexible work schedule, including evenings and/or weekends.

 

 Licenses  and  Certificates:

Valid driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed.

 

 Work  Environment:

Moderate exposure to various disagreeable elements with frequent exposure to noise, dust, the outdoors, or other unpleasant conditions. Physical demands include walking, standing, and occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
