Position Title: 

Membership and Fundraising Coordinator, Gillespie County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum 

PART-TIME (20 hours per week) 

Reporting Structure: 

The Membership and Fundraising Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and Director of Operations.  

About the Gillespie County Historical Society and Pioneer Museum: 

The Gillespie County Historical Society (GCHS) is seeking a part-time Membership and Fundraising Coordinator to increase awareness of the museum and its mission and grow its membership base. The Society’s activities center around two museum sites it owns and operates, the Pioneer Museum and the Vereins Kirche. The Pioneer Museum is a 3+ acre complex of historic buildings, artifacts, and archives, interpreting the story of the 1840’s German colonization of the Texas Hill Country and the immigrant German founders of Fredericksburg. The Vereins Kirche is a replica of an 1847 structure, completely reinterpreted in 2020 to tell the story of the building’s history and significance. Both sites are in the heart of this popular tourist destination town. Annual visitation to the Pioneer Museum and Vereins Kirche is routinely 36,000-plus. The Gillespie County Historical Society was chartered in 1935. It currently has a $700,000 annual operating budget, a fifteen-member Board of Directors, three full-time and twelve part-time employees. Having completed all prerequisites, the museum is being considered for accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums in March 2022. 


Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Actively assists and directly participates in fundraising and donor cultivation by collaborating with all fundraising planning and events,  
  • Facilitates successful membership drives and participates in developing member benefits, and cofacilitates with board committees,   
  • Supports the annual membership meeting each January, 
  • Oversees the management of all membership, donations and special areas of development as identified,  
  • Works with the leadership team to set goals for all major fundraising efforts and works with fundraising committees to create sponsorship levels and solicit donations and donor acknowledgements, 
  • Lead in the organizing and administering membership public events on or off campus, 
  • Assist marketing efforts creating and delivering communications in support of membership, 
  • Proactively identifies new prospects to support the museum and develops initiatives to convert them to members, 
  • Demonstrates awareness of the sensitivity and confidentiality of members’/donors’ financial information.  

Ideally Candidates Should Possess: 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to engage people of a wide range of ages and experiences, 
  • High energy and passion for the museum’s mission, 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail, 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, database management (Past Perfect), 
  • Flexible and adaptable to team’s needs. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business studies, marketing, development or public fundraising, 
  • Three to five years’ experience in membership and or development, 
  • Enthusiastic leadership style that builds team cohesiveness, 
  • Public relations and communication skills, 
  • Proficiency in technology applications and social media skills, 
  • Eager listener and seeker of knowledge to build proficiency in weaker areas. 



This is a part-time 20 hour per week position.  

$18.00 per hour, 

Flexibility to work from home and at the 325 W Main Street campus location.
