Museum Administrator Job Description
Job Title: Museum Administrator (Part Time)
Location: 500 E. Pruitt St., Bryan, TX, 77803
Start Date: Immediately/ As soon as possible
Job Description:
The Administrator of the Brazos Valley African American Museum is responsible for the operations and sustainability of the museum through developing community relationships, cultivating donors, overseeing daily operations, and supporting the educational goals of the museum as part of the overarching mission of the African American National Heritage Society. To thrive in this position a person must be excited to work with the public, have an interest in African American history and culture, and possess multi-tasking, technology, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership and Community Liaison
- Serve as a spokesperson to clearly articulate the museum’s mission, vision, and values
- Guide the growth, public image, and strengthen the vibrancy of the museum throughout the Brazos Valley region
- Cultivate relationships on behalf of the museum, including professional contacts with other museums, individuals, small businesses, and corporations
- Provide leadership in local and regional initiatives
- Represent the museum through presentations and attendance at professional meetings
Sustainability and Marketing
- Lead grant writing and other major fundraising efforts
- Seek out and initiate other funding opportunities that will benefit the museum
- Develop and maintain quality partnerships with private and public resources, including local, state, and federal public and private agencies that financially support museums/nonprofit
- Identify potential donors and cultivate relationships through regular, positive interaction
- Increase brand awareness of the Museum and promote museum activities, events, and exhibits
- Grow the membership of the Brazos Valley African American Museum
Operations
- Greet patrons and serve as a museum guide during business hours
- Oversee the daily activity and upkeep of the building
- Maintain current and accurate records of the museum
- Provide reports to the Board of Trustees and attend Board meetings (without a vote) as requested
- Maintain an office and exhibit calendar
Education
- Design and implement educational and community programs
- Curate collections, design, and display exhibits
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
At least 2 years of work experience required
Museum experience preferred

Compensation:
This part time position pays $25/hour. The person hired for this position will be expected to work approximately 20 hours a week.
