Position Title: Science Coordinator 

The Grace Museum in Abilene Texas is looking for a Science Coordinator to hire immediately to help plan, build, and run a new children's science location scheduled to open in the Fall of 2024. This position will be a part of the process from the ground up. The Science Coordinator will write exhibit content, work with the design firm, work with science partners, schedule temporary exhibits, build classroom content, train volunteers as well as part-time staff, and oversee building site staff. It is an exciting new addition to The Grace Museum with lots of community support. Applicants must be able to handle multiple tasks, have good communication skills with children and adults, should be outgoing, and love to work with people and kids of all socioeconomic levels.
 
Due to the nature of this often fast-paced work, the Science Coordinator must be able to stand/walk for several hours a day, sometimes outside, climb into and around exhibits, and utilize basic cleaning equipment.
 
*Must be able to work with the Museum's schedule that may include weekends and evenings.

 

Supervisor:  Director of Education 

Classification: Full-time 

Hiring: Immediately

Salary: $40,000-$45,000 (commensurate with experience)

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in a related field, such as Museum Studies, Science, or Science Education
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge of standard museum procedures with an emphasis on interpretation and educational programming
  • Exhibits impressive organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as flexibility
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of the techniques and methods of planning and organizing research 
  • Possesses competent computer, database, and desktop publishing skills
  • Possesses solid budget management skills
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and coordinate innovative programs and handle multiple tasks and attention to details.
  • Demonstrates an ability to deal effectively with deadlines and time pressures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge or experience in research, program evaluation, and teaching methodologies
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and interpersonal skills, and working in a team environment 
  • Demonstrates skill and confidence in public speaking
