Texas Museum Advocacy Award

TAM’s Texas Museum Advocacy Award honors outstanding efforts in championing the interests of Texas museums at the local, state, or national level. This award recognizes individuals, institutions, or organizations whose advocacy has significantly advanced the visibility, support, and impact of museums across the state. Established at the TAM 2025 Annual Conference in Austin, this award underscores the vital role of advocacy in shaping the future of Texas museums.

Eligibility

Advocacy efforts may include public policy work, community engagement, coalition building, public awareness campaigns, legislative outreach, or other initiatives that directly support and strengthen Texas museums.

Nominees may include individuals, museums, institutions, organizations, foundations, or community partners whose advocacy efforts have had a meaningful impact on the Texas museum field.

Must be a TAM institutional member to submit. All entries must be submitted by or on behalf of the nominee and must directly relate to advocacy efforts benefiting museums or the broader cultural sector in Texas.

Any entry deemed not to meet these criteria will be disqualified and entry fee will be forfeited.

Policies

There is a limit of 1 submission of this Award type per nominee. Nominees may self-nominate.

Advocacy efforts may represent ongoing work or a specific initiative completed within the past year.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should include a narrative summary of the nominee’s advocacy efforts not to exceed 500 words. Supporting materials such as letters of support, media coverage, legislative materials, campaign examples, or other documentation demonstrating impact are welcome but not required.

Judging will consider the overall impact, effectiveness, innovation, and long-term significance of the advocacy efforts on behalf of Texas museums and cultural organizations.

The Texas Museum Advocacy Award is presented each year at the TAM Annual Meeting. The recipient will be notified in advance and invited to the meeting.
