Application Specialist & Desktop Support

Department:   Information Technology

Reports to:      Chief Information Officer

Salary Range: Full-time 60K-70K

Summary:The Application Specialist & Desktop Support position performs technical evaluation, installation, maintenance, and support for a variety of applications. Provides professional-level systems administration and consultative support.  This position is full-time and will require night and weekend hours. 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Application Management:
    • Administer, support, and maintain a variety of software applications, including but not limited to office productivity, email, and industry-specific tools.
    • Monitor and optimize application performance to ensure efficiency.
    • Install, update, and configure software applications for end-users.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve application-related issues in a timely manner.
    • Collaborate with vendors for application support and issue resolution.
    • Ensure software licenses are up-to-date and in compliance with licensing agreements.
  • Documentation and Training:
    • Create and maintain documentation for standard operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles.
    • Provide training and guidance to end-users on software applications and best practices.
    • Foster a culture of self-help among end-users by promoting knowledge sharing.
  • Hardware and Software Procurement:
    • Assist in evaluating and recommending hardware and software purchases based on business needs and budgets.
    • Manage inventory and asset tracking for all desktop hardware and software licenses.
  • Desktop Support:
    • Provide on-site and remote technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software issues.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, laptop, and peripheral hardware problems promptly.
    • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems and software applications.
    • Perform hardware and software upgrades and updates as needed.
    • Set up and configure new workstations and ensure they are compliant with company standards.
    • Manage and maintain user accounts, permissions, and security settings.
    • Collaborate with other IT team members to resolve complex technical issues. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in desktop support, application administration, or a related role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, macOS, and common software applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and software deployment tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Project management experience a plus 

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility-This could involve walking, standing, stooping, lifting and/or carrying equipment.
  • Manual dexterity – Includes working with computer hardware and peripherals.  Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for use in connecting cables, setting up equipment and making hardware adjustments.
  • Vision – Good eyesight for reading small text on computer screens, identifying hardware components, and troubleshooting issues. 
  • Hearing – Clear hearing for effective communication with end-users and to identify any usual sounds or alerts from computer hardware.
