Job Title: Collections Manager, Part-time
Reports to: Chief Curator of Collections
Location: Fort Bend History Association, Richmond, Texas
Compensation: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
Position Summary:
The Assistant Collections Manager supports the care, documentation, and management of the Fort Bend History Association’s collections. This position works closely with the Chief Curator to ensure the proper stewardship of artifacts through documentation, environmental monitoring, storage, and exhibition preparation. The Assistant Collections Manager also assists in supervising interns and contributes to the ongoing cataloging and digitization of the collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain all accession and loan files in accordance with museum
standards and policies. - Assist the Chief Curator with the preparation, handling, and installation of artifacts
for exhibition. - Participate in regular and special collections inventories.
- Support cataloging and digitization projects for new acquisitions and backlog
materials. - Monitor environmental conditions across collections spaces, including dataloggers
and hygrothermographs. - Perform collections housekeeping in storage areas and collections offices.
- Provide supervision and guidance to collections interns, particularly in the absence
of the Chief Curator.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- This is a part-time, on-site position with occasional evening and weekend hours
required for events and programs. - Must be able to climb ladders and safely handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to walk across historic grounds and climb stairs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, history, art history, or a related field.
- Experience with collections management practices, databases, and digitization
processes. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Knowledge of museum environmental monitoring and preventive conservation
practices preferred.
