MEMBERSHIP SPECIALIST

Summary:

The Texas State Historical Association is seeking an energetic and passionate professional to engage with our members by phone, email, and at our events. The Membership Specialist is responsible for implementing the strategic initiatives to increase individual, institutional, and corporate memberships.

The Membership Specialist works collaboratively with the Executive Director and Administrative Director; and may field questions from all other departments.

Preferred candidates will have a minimum of three years of experience related to membership, sales, customer service, and/or project management; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is helpful but not required.

Marketing/Sales Outreach:

  • Engage with potential, current and lapsed members;
  • Implement strategic initiatives through targeted membership solicitations;
  • Design campaigns to encourage new member sign ups;
  • Maintain the TSHA user database and membership portal (MyTSHA) online;
  • Identify prospective members (join, rejoin, upgrade), launch targeted appeals, and planned giving solicitation with life members;
  • Assist constituents and the general public regarding membership questions
  • Completes other related duties as assigned or requested.

Technology:

  • Daily – Review membership enrollment and payment processing;
  • Update constituent records (address, email, phone number, spouse, etc) in TSHA communications software (currently Wild Apricot, MailChimp, and Sendy);
  • Weekly – follow-up on expired/incorrect credit card information on file prior to automatic renewal;
  • Monthly – Document membership gains/losses;
  • Quarterly – Report to Board of Directors
  • Queries and reports to management for events, trend analysis, development campaigns, membership retention, etc.;

Required Qualifications:

Professional demeanor;

Excellent customer service;

Must be proficient in database data entry and management;

Competency of Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite; Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to work in a team environment, meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks simultaneously;

Compensation:

  • Salary will be commensurate with education and/or professional experience.

Work Hours:

This is a full-time, exempt position; hours are between 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday (unless preapproved by supervisor), with some weekend duty and travel during special Association events.

Salary range: $45,000 to $55,000 depending on education and/or professional experience.
