Job Type: Part-time | Non-Exempt | Hourly Pay: $18 to $22 per hour

 

The higher end of the salary range will be considered given the level of desired qualifications the candidate brings to the position.

 

Hours: Part-time hours, some weekends and evenings

 

About the Museum: The Sid Richardson Museum displays permanent and special exhibitions of paintings of the American West, including paintings by the premier Western artists, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. The works are the legacy of the late oilman and philanthropist, Sid W. Richardson, and were acquired by him from 1942 until his death in 1959. Following Sid Richardson’s philosophy of helping others, this free Museum is open seven days a week and offers educational resources, tours, and programs for adults and children.

 

Job Summary: The person in this position serves as a front-facing representative of the Sid Richardson Museum, supporting and facilitating School and Family Programs as scheduled and assisting visitors in support of the Guest Services team.

This position is part-time, non-exempt, and approximately 24 hours per week role. The Associate will teach up to two (2) program days during the work week, and assist in running occasional programming select weekend days. When programs are not scheduled on these days, the Associate will help with Guest Services, greeting guests and orienting them to the museum as needed.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate public programs, workshops, and gallery experiences, including school tours and hands-on studio art activities.
  • Assist in preparing programming materials and maintaining the Museum’s studio classroom and family space.
  • Be an ambassador for the Museum at outreach events, promoting Museum programs and exhibitions to teachers, families, and museum visitors.
  • Collaborate with the Education Department to plan tour activities, create samples, research best practices, and generally support program development.
  • Support the Guest Services team as needed by welcoming and assisting Museum visitors at the Museum’s entrance.
  • Occasional coverage of full Guest Services shifts approximately two (2) days per month as well as some coverage on open days around the winter holidays (the Museum is not open major holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day).
  • Participate in staff meetings and continuing education sessions with Museum docents to stay up-to-date on collection content and best practices in teaching and learning.

Must possess the ability to work with a diverse staff and public under ever-changing conditions. Must be flexible, with an ability to achieve cross-functional teamwork
  • Must be able to assess, prioritize, and multitask quickly and successfully while maintaining a high level of visitor engagement/satisfaction
  • Must be prompt and dependable.
  • Must present a neat, professional appearance, in accordance with Museum dress code
  • Must learn about the Museum’s collection, local history and local cultural venues, and area restaurants.
  • Must respond to updates from Museum staff regarding schedules/communications in a timely manner.

 

Desired Background and Experience:

  • Experience teaching children in a museum, classroom, or other arts organization
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people, including K-12 students and their teachers and other Museum staff.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Background knowledge of elementary or secondary education desired.
  • Background knowledge of art and or art history desired.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desired.
