SummaryReporting to the Director of Libraries and Museums, the Assistant Director of Libraries and Museums will provide leadership, guidance, and strategic direction to the supervisors and managers of the Temple Public Library and the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum. This position will also act as a liaison between the Library and Museum with other City Departments and community partners at the discretion of the Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Employs UX best practices and theory to provide leadership and vision in developing and improving innovative, user-centered public services, spaces, policies, and procedures
  • In collaboration with relevant Library stakeholders, provides leadership on issues surrounding access
  • Provides work direction, including hiring, scheduling, supervision, discipline, and reviews for Supervisory and Management staff
  • Develops, plans, and implements the library and museum strategic plans as well as policies and procedures
  • Serves as working supervisor of the library and museum
  • Acts as liaison between the Libraries and Museums to various City Departments and community partners
  • Develops, implements, analyzes, and reports on user experience projects and initiatives to support development of services in the Library that support the City of Temple community
  • Receives and evaluates the budget recommendations and provides them to the Director; prepares and presents budget presentations as assigned
  • Responds to customer inquiries and concerns and interprets policies to resolve them
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings as appropriate and/or required
  • Follows the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Four (4) years of experience in library or museum operations
  • Two (2) years management level experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Planner, and To-Do

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS), Museum Studies, MBA
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications Forms, OneNote, SharePoint, Lists, Bookings, and Power Automate
  • Project management experience, including but not limited to Agile, Lean, Kanban, or Scrum
  • Grant writing experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Position: Full Time

Pay Type: Salary

The starting pay range for this position is $88,712.00.
